Prestigious award recognises transformation in fracture care delivery in NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde
Glasgow, 28 May 2025 — Red Star FLS and NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde’s South Sector Fracture Liaison Service (FLS) have been awarded the William Cullen Prize for Innovation by GGC with the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, in recognition of a groundbreaking digital solution that has dramatically improved the identification and treatment of patients with fragility fractures.
Led by Dr Maria Talla, the South Sector FLS partnered with Red Star to develop a web-based clinician dashboard system, Red Star FLS, to streamline and enhance care for patients over 50 who have sustained fragility fractures.
The impact has been substantial:
- Identification time reduced from 15 months to just 3 days
- Automated audit tools built into the platform now show the South Sector FLS is exceeding national standards across the UK
- The solution enables timely treatment, improved outcomes, and a step change in clinical efficiency
“We are honoured to support the clinical team winning the William Cullen Prize,” said Andrew Conkie, CEO of Red Star. “This award recognises not just technology, but collaboration. Dr Talla and her team have shown what’s possible when frontline expertise and digital innovation come together to solve real-world challenges.”
The William Cullen Prize is awarded annually to celebrate excellence in teaching and service innovation across NHS Scotland. The winners were announced at NHS GGC’s Celebrating Success 2025 event on 28 May.
We thank the clinical team at NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde, along with the West of Scotland Innovation Hub, NHS National Services Scotland, NHS Education for Scotland, and everyone involved in the development and implementation of the system.
